Helpful New Year's resolutions for divorcees in Arizona

For many Arizona residents, the start of 2014 is a time to consider resolutions. This is especially true for those who are in the process of getting a divorce. But rather than making a large-scale resolution to "have a good divorce" or something of that nature, it is often more beneficial to resolve to get certain necessary components of the divorce completed one step at a time.

The nature of a divorce -- how hotly contested or how collaborative -- often hinges on property division that is mutually satisfactory. But rather than simply resolving to divide property in a way that is good and beneficial, it is often better to think of the various steps that need to be taken within property division -- for example, the inventorying of assets and the gathering of financial documents.

One important component of property division is important financial documents. Many may initially think of large assets when property division comes to mind and forget to include the many smaller but still valuable properties. This can be avoided by getting organized and approaching the organization step by step. There is a lot of paperwork involved, so breaking it down into what is needed -- tax returns, bank statements, mortgages and other necessary financial documents -- can help divorcees begin inventorying and organizing, hopefully coming to a clearer idea of their financial pictures and what they may or may not be entitled to.

Another resolution worth considering is to avoid going through the divorce process alone. Some may be considering a do-it-yourself divorce, but divorce involves many complexities. Navigating the various legalities involved can be difficult for anyone who lacks a background in family law.
